Fort McMurray Power Up Day for Girls

The Keyano College Huskies Athletics partnered with Girls In Sport Canada to bring their PowerUP! multi-sport camp program to Fort McMurray. 

  • The program gives girls an inspiring and confidence-building multi-sport experience that not only introduces them to a range of sports, fostering the development of diverse sport-specific skills, but also instills confidence, competence, motivation and active participation. 
  • The camp was offered to girls ages 5-12 and they got to try four different sports: Basketball, Soccer, Cheerleading and Judo. 
  • As part of the program the girls also focused discussions on topics that build confidence, positive social connection, leadership, teamwork and much more. 

With the funding from InMotion the program was offered free of charge, eliminating financial barriers to participation and fostering inclusion in sport for the 52 participants. In addition the 13  volunteers were also female which was a great opportunity to show girls and women in leadership roles in sport.
