Aurora Artistic Swim Club - Coaching Project
This project included 3 phases to support coach development in the Edmonton Aurora Artistic Swim Club and lead to the participation of 25 coaches and judges. The first phase began with support for coaches to get their certification at a reduced cost. This supported 4 coaches to get training and were able to start coaching and getting paid after certification, versus leaving the sport to get a part time job to pay for the certification.
The second phase of this project was to bring in an outside coach with experience to share their knowledge with the coaches. This was a great opportunity for the coaches to see that they involvement in the sport can be long lasting and a career if they are interested.
The last phase provided support for coaches as they learned the new rules of artistic swimming. These rule changes were made 2 years ago and it led many coaches and judges to retire as the new rules can be seen as complicated. The additional course on these new rules supported the coaches and judges to develop confidence and expertise in the new rules. Those who had taken the course have become leaders in the new rules not only to support other coaches and officials but also athletes.
