Try it Triathlon
This Makadiff funded project was a partnership with InMotion Network and Alberta Triathlon. Over the 2022 year we worked together to try to reduce the barriers for participation for girls and women in the sport of Triathlon. This included financial barriers, access barriers, skill development barriers and facility access barriers.
Girl's Program - We partnered with Free Play for Kids in Edmonton for the girls program opportunities. This included afterschool Mini Modo programs and a girls summer camp Mini Modo program. In the programs girls were introduced to swimming and running portions of a Triathlon and then completed in their own Mini Modo at the conclusion of each program.
Women's Program - Alberta Triathlon hosted a "Social Swims" drop in program at Eastglen Pool in Edmonton. This low cost opportunity was targeted a increasing women's participation in Triathlon and each drop in was supported by a certified coach.
Overall the project supported over 384 women and girls to participate in modified Triathlon activities through 188 sessions/opportunities. Through the women's program there was not only increased triathlon participation but also leadership participation - 1 participant became a technical official, one became a community triathlon coach and one is a sanctioned club executive.
Thank you to Makadiff and all of the partners for their support of this project.
